The City of San Juan Capistrano Is First in State to Pilot Recycled Bricks Made from Old Tires
Innovative Rubber Bricks Allows Tree Roots to Breathe, Reducing Stormwater Runoff and Save Cost to the City
City officials are taking an innovative approach to overcoming a growing problem by replacing the concrete pavement with 900 square feet of rubber bricks. Residents and City employees will be able to enjoy a stroll under the trees without tripping over cracked and buckled pavement with the installation of Rubbersidewalks at City Hall. Not only will this new surface be safer for pedestrians, it also will recycle 9000 pounds of rubber from over 900 used passenger vehicle tires that would otherwise clog area landfills.
